Code of Conduct at FGU Nordvest
Dear student at FGU Nordvest,
At FGU Nordvest, we work together every day to ensure that the school is a safe and welcoming place, creating the best conditions for everyone to strengthen their academic, personal, and social skills.
Community and Wellbeing
Based on classroom discussions, the student councils of the three FGU Nordvest schools have formulated the following guidelines for how we interact with one another:
1. Community
Everyone at FGU Nordvest must:

Remember that everyone comes with a desire to belong.

Collaborate – support one another and give space.
-
Take care of the school’s facilities and equipment and help keep classrooms tidy.

Be welcoming and make new students feel at home – we hope everyone will contribute to our culture of greeting one another.
2. Integrity
Everyone at FGU Nordvest must:

Set a good example – even if you are not in the same class or group.
-
Be polite, helpful, and engaged.
-
Show care and be a good friend.
-
Remember to clean up after yourself.
3. Respect
Everyone at FGU Nordvest must:

Respect differences.
-
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
-
Keep agreements.
-
Respect when others are speaking – don’t interrupt, make noise, or laugh.
-
Raise your hand if you want to speak.
-
Only use your phone in class if the teacher allows it.
-
Speak respectfully and show trust in one another.
-
Respect if someone needs an explanation repeated.
Additional Rules
Active Participation
Students are expected to fulfill the goals in their education and learning plan and actively participate in teaching and activities at FGU Nordvest.
Absence without reporting sick is considered unauthorised and will lead to a conversation with your contact teacher. Your school benefit will be reduced accordingly.
Reporting Sick
If you are ill, you must notify the student counselor before 8:00 a.m. each day.
Drugs and Alcohol

You may not attend school under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
-
Alcohol is not allowed during school hours.
-
It is forbidden to consume, bring, or sell drugs at school.
Violation of these rules may lead to expulsion. If you struggle with alcohol or substance use, we will work with you and the local treatment center to create a support plan.
Smoking and Similar Products
Since August 1, 2021, all youth education institutions in Denmark must have smoke-free school hours. This includes all tobacco products, e-cigarettes, water pipes, and smokeless tobacco.
Violation will lead to escalating consequences:

Conversation with contact teacher (“the candy talk”).
-
Conversation with contact teacher (“the opportunity talk”) – possible support.
-
Meeting with the school leader + verbal warning (signed).
-
Meeting with the school leader + written warning (signed).
-
Suspension without pay for 5 days (cf. Code of Conduct).
-
Expulsion from school.

Clothing
Students must wear clothing appropriate for their workshop/track. Clothing and footwear must meet safety and hygiene standards. Workwear and protective equipment are provided by the school.
Religion
FGU Nordvest respects all students’ religions. However, as a public institution, we consider religion a private matter. Religious preaching, worship, or similar activities are not permitted at school.
Attitudes
It is not allowed to promote or encourage extremist or fundamentalist attitudes or behavior contrary to the goals of education, including exerting social control over other students.
Bullying
Bullying affects safety, learning, and development. The school will intervene in all cases of bullying, including on social media, even if it occurs outside school hours. Bullying will result in sanctions.
Violence and Threats
Violence and threatening behavior are not tolerated. Consequences may include police reports, suspension, notification to authorities, or expulsion.
Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment is illegal in Denmark. It includes unwanted verbal, non-verbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature with the purpose or effect of violating a person’s dignity.
If you experience sexual harassment at school, in work training, or in combined courses, you can talk to your contact teacher or another trusted teacher.
Mobile Phones
In some activities, mobile phones must remain closed. In others, they are required.
Computers
School laptops may only be taken off school premises with your teacher’s approval. You are responsible for proper use and safe storage.
Privacy
You may not make audio or video recordings of others at FGU Nordvest unless agreed and part of teaching. Sharing private recordings, including of intimate or offensive character, is forbidden. Violations will result in sanctions and possibly police reports.
Language
School language is Danish, both in classes and during breaks. Derogatory nicknames or offensive speech will not be tolerated.
School Property
Respect school facilities and equipment. All students are responsible for cleaning their own workshop/classroom.
Violations of the Rules
Depending on the violation, the school may impose:

Verbal or written warnings.
-
Exclusion from teaching, activities, or events.
-
Ban on bringing personal items (e.g., phones).
-
Decide a student must takt an exam in a subject(s) irrespective of selection .
-
Reduction in school benefits for up to 5 days,
-
Exclusion from classes for up to 10 days (recorded absence).
-
Transfer to another FGU school.
-
Expulsion from the program.
For students under 18, advisors and parents/guardians may be informed.
Whistleblower Scheme
FGU Nordvest is committed to ensuring student wellbeing.
If you experience bullying, offensive behavior, or unwanted sexual attention, contact your contact teacher, an school counselor, or the school principal.
Complaints
Students may appeal to the Ministry of Education.

The Code of Conduct has been set by the institution following consultation with the student council and approved by the FGU Nordvest Board on December 9, 2020.
